CHAPTER TWELVE

Wolf eased his Harley in the parking area beside Barclay’s and took off his helmet. “Welcome back, Ghost. I’m glad to have my diving partner back. Jace did a good job, but he’s not as intuitive as you.” They ambled toward Station Thirty-Two, their helmets under their arms. “So, did that young policeman get off your property unscathed last night?”

Barclay glanced at Wolf. “What do you mean?”

Wolf swiped his keycard and opened the door to the equipment room. “You know what the hell I mean. I saw him eyeballing Molly. Hell, he was half-flirting with her.”

“The fucker’s lucky he didn’t go home with his dreadlocks shoved up his ass. He had the audacity to touch her face. Hell, she’d been on my lap all night. Any man in his right mind would take that as a ‘hand’s off’ signal.” He slipped out his cell. “Hold on. Need to text Molly.” He snickered when her reply chimed in and he sent a reply. “Woman thinks she can get ahead of me.”

Before the squad could start their morning wipe-down and polishing of equipment and rigging, the Captain’s voice sounded over the intercom. “Need all diving personnel in my office ASAP.” When Noah Steele used that tone of voice, everyone hustled.

Wolf, Commander of the Marine Rescue Unit, Quinn, watercraft driver and the divers, Barclay, Jace and Armando, filled Noah’s office. As head of the unit, Wolf asked what was up.

Noah’s face was especially grim. “We have ourselves a potential cluster-fuck. First off, two boats collided offshore about an hour ago, he pointed to the spot on the map. One went down. It was armed with explosives, a bomb bound for some rich dude’s estate farther up the coastline. Drug cartel revenge looks like to me.

“The driver started singing like a canary when the Marine Rescue Squad from the last shift pulled him out of the water. Guess the dumbass was so grateful he wasn’t going to drown, after all.” Noah glanced at Wolf. “That squad doesn’t have the caliber of men yours does. So I’m sending yours out to finish the job. Hell, I don’t even know if the boat still afloat has survivors, or not.

“Headquarters needs to replace some men on that team; makes us look bad. Coast Guard is on the way, but we’ve been asked to do preliminary location dives.”

“We’ll take the Rescue One Connector Boat and should be in the water in five, six minutes.” Wolf glanced around the room at his crew. They’d trained hard for things like this. “Barclay, you were a demolitions expert in the Rangers. I’ll need you in the water with me.”

“You got it.”

“Jace, you’ve got damn good eyes and medic training. Armando, you’re thorough as hell. I want you two on the boat still afloat. Search for bodies and any fires.” Both men nodded.

Quinn flipped the dial on his diving watch. “Give me the exact coordinates of the wreckage site and I’ll key it in.” The rest of the squad rushed out of the office.
